Fred Norman provides Sound and Lighting Technical Services to North Yorkshire and beyond. With experience on industry standard equipment, including Allen & Heath, RCF, Midas, Yamaha, ETC, QLab, and many more.

About Fred

Fred picked up the guitar at the age of seven and gave his first performance a year later. Since then, he has gone on to learn a range of instruments and has been making music ever since. While performing with BlueBoxt Creative and Performing Arts, Fred developed a keen interest in live sound and lighting. This passion led to mentorships with industry professionals across the region.

Fred continues to work with BlueBoxt, providing event planning and logistics, as well as programming and operating audio and visual systems for tours, concerts, theatre productions, and fundraising events.

From 2023 to 2025, Fred studied Music Production at Newcastle College. During his time there, he volunteered with the sound and lighting department, often operating the monitoring console for student performances. Outside of college, he consistently sought opportunities to expand his experience in live event production.

In 2024, Fred established himself as a freelance sound, lighting, and production technician. He is currently booked for tours in 2025 and actively seeking new creative opportunities for 2026.

Fred is passionate about growing his technical knowledge and refining his skills. He is always eager to learn new techniques in sound and lighting to elevate his work and broaden his connections within the industry.

Sound

Fred is a sound technician and audio engineer with experience on industry-standard desks including Allen & Heath, Yamaha, Midas, Avid, and DiGiCo. He brings a musician’s ear to the role, focusing on clean, balanced mixes—whether it’s an intimate jazz gig or a high-energy arena rock show. Fred works collaboratively with artists and crew to deliver a tailored, high-quality experience for both performers and audiences.

Lighting

Fred is a lighting technician with experience in live music, theatre, and event production. He’s worked with a range of industry-standard lighting consoles and fixtures including Avolites, EOS, Chauvet, Martin Professional, and Robe. He is confident programming and operating dynamic shows for both small venues and large-scale events. Fred takes a creative yet practical approach to lighting design, aiming to enhance the performance. He works creatively with artists and production teams to create atmosphere, mood, and impact that is sympathetic to the environment and presentation.
